A waiter (or server) is a hospitality professional who ensures diners have a memorable experience by providing excellent customer service. Their core responsibilities include welcoming and seating guests, presenting menus, taking accurate food and beverage orders, delivering meals, and handling bill payments. - Customer Service: Greeting guests warmly, managing seating flow, explaining daily specials, and ensuring guest satisfaction throughout the meal. [1, 2]
- Order Taking: Taking precise food and drink orders, noting special dietary requirements or allergies, and relaying them to the kitchen or bar. [1, 2]
- Serving & Clearing: Delivering meals and beverages in a timely manner, checking dish quality, and clearing tables between courses. [1, 2]
- Payments: Preparing bills, processing cash or credit card transactions, and returning change. [1, 2]
- Maintenance: Assisting with setup (polishing silverware/glassware), maintaining a clean dining area, and performing end-of-shift restocking. [1, 2]
Essential Skills & Qualifications
- Communication: Ability to converse clearly with guests, provide menu recommendations, and collaborate with kitchen and bar staff.
