Teacher Assistant (Union)

Location: 765 South Buchanan Street, Fremont, OH 43420

Schedule: Monday – Thursday (7:00 AM – 4:00 PM)

Weekly Hours: 34 hours per week, 42 weeks per year

Employment Type: Seasonal Full-Time

Pay Rate: $19.41 per hour (Associate’s Degree or CDA) | $17.82 (HS Diploma or GED)

Summary: Assist teachers with the daily operations in compliance with all policies, procedures, licensing and funding requirements.

Education:

High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED)/

As prescribed in section 648A(a)(2)(B)(ii) of the Head Start Act, Head Start assistant teachers must, at a minimum, have a CDA credential or a state-awarded certificate that meets or exceeds the requirements for a CDA credential, are enrolled in a program that will lead to an associate or baccalaureate degree or, are enrolled in a CDA credential program to be completed within two years of the time of hire.

Experience:

Up to one-year experience in early childhood development and up to one-year experience with word processing and internet software.

As a condition of employment, the following are additional requirements:

  • Initial and periodic physical exams required.
  • Must submit to initial and/or periodic state and/or federal criminal checks.
  • Must submit to initial and periodic drug and alcohol testing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with implementing developmentally appropriate activities and strategies which support the social, emotional, physical and cognitive development of preschool children.
  • Assist with providing an age-appropriate learning environment that allows for individual differences.
  • Assist with promoting and encouraging a positive learning environment and nurturing teacher child interactions.
  • Substitute for teaching staff; assist with classroom activities.
  • Organize, sanitize and store classroom equipment and supplies.
  • Recruit and direct volunteers.
  • Assist in conducting 2 educational home visits per child per year.
  • Maintain accurate records and submit records as requested.
