Job Opening: Special Education Route Driver

Position: Special Education Route Driver (District Vehicle – Not a Bus)
Compensation: $17.80 per hour
Schedule: School Days – Hours vary based on assigned route(s)

Description:
The East Union Community School District is seeking a dependable and compassionate Special Education Route Driver to safely transport students with special needs to and from school or other designated programs. This position involves driving a district-provided car or van—not a school bus—and requires patience, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to student safety.

Responsibilities:

• Operate a district-provided car or van on assigned routes.
• Transport special education students safely and courteously to and from school, programs, or activities.
• Assist students in entering and exiting the vehicle as needed, ensuring proper securement of any mobility devices.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly vehicle environment.
• Follow all district, state, and federal transportation guidelines.
• Communicate promptly with the Transportation Director regarding route changes, delays, or concerns.

Qualifications:

• Valid Iowa driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Must meet Iowa DOT requirements for school transportation drivers (training provided if needed).
• Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug screening.
• Patience, empathy, and professionalism when working with students.
• Experience transporting students with special needs preferred, but not required.
