POSITION SUMMARY:

A well-established organization in the transportation and industrial services sector is seeking an experienced Shop Foreman to oversee fleet maintenance operations. This role is responsible for ensuring the operational readiness, safety, and compliance of a diverse fleet of equipment. The successful candidate will lead shop personnel, coordinate repairs across field and shop environments, manage parts and inventory, and collaborate closely with operations and dispatch teams to maintain high performance standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain and track all unit repairs and preventative maintenance, including inspections and certifications (e.g., CVIP, DVIR, tank and hose certifications) to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinate daily with shop leadership and dispatch to prioritize and schedule repairs.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities meet established standards and follow internal procedures.
  • Develop and maintain consistent systems for unit documentation, records, and processes.
  • Track and manage service intervals and equipment expiries using fleet management systems.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure cleanliness, safety, and adherence to company policies.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to plan and execute fleet maintenance and repair strategies.
  • Ensure all fleet-related activities comply with applicable legislation, regulations, and internal policies.
  • Establish and enforce fleet management standards and operating procedures.
  • Schedule, assign, and review maintenance work orders for shop personnel.
  • Lead, mentor, and supervise mechanics and shop staff; conduct performance evaluations.
  • Work cross-functionally with internal departments to address operational needs and challenges.
  • Facilitate and participate in meetings with operations, safety, and leadership teams.
  • Oversee monthly fleet inspections and ensure work is completed accurately and to standard.
  • Support training initiatives related to equipment operation, safety, and emergency response.
  • Assist with off-site repairs or roadside support when required.
  • Contribute to fleet planning, including equipment specifications and lifecycle management.
  • Oversee parts and inventory management, including audits and stock control.
  • Promote a strong safety culture through engagement, observations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • Extensive experience in fleet operations, preferably in a field-based environment.
  • 2–5 years of experience in the HD transportation or related industry.
  • Journeyperson Heavy Duty Mechanic certification (or equivalent) is an asset.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team supervision experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Proven ability to manage conflict, prioritize tasks, and perform under pressure.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and fleet management systems.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence (clean abstract required).
  • Class 1 or 3 Driver’s Licence considered an asset.
