Host / Hostess Job Description Position Title: Host / Hostess
Reports To: Front of House (FOH) Managers
Position Summary
The Host is the first and last point of contact for guests and plays a critical role in setting the tone for the dining experience. This position is responsible for warmly greeting guests, managing reservations and waitlists, and controlling the flow of seating to ensure smooth operations and excellent service. Hosts support both dine-in and to-go guests while maintaining organization, cleanliness, and professionalism at the front of the house.
Key Responsibilities Guest Experience & Hospitality
- Greet all guests promptly and professionally upon arrival.
- Manage guest flow by seating guests efficiently and appropriately based on server sections and table availability.
- Provide accurate wait times and manage guest expectations during peak periods.
- Build rapport with guests to encourage repeat visits and maintain a loyal customer base.
- Assist guests with menu questions and general restaurant information.
Reservations & Seating Management
- Book, modify, and cancel reservations accurately using the reservation system.
- Enter detailed reservation notes and special requests.
- Monitor dining room activity to balance sections and optimize table turns.
- Communicate seating updates and pacing with servers and managers.
To-Go Orders & Payments
- Accurately take to-go food and beverage orders in person or by phone.
- Suggestively upsell items to enhance guest experience and increase check averages.
- Process cash and credit card transactions accurately.
- Maintain and balance a personal cash drawer each shift.
- Complete end-of-shift paperwork and checkout procedures.
