A general worker, or general laborer, is a foundational, adaptable role responsible for supporting daily operations across industries like manufacturing, warehousing, and construction. They perform manual labor, move materials, maintain workspaces, and assist skilled tradespeople to ensure efficiency and safety. Core Responsibilities
- Material Handling: Loading, unloading, stocking, and organizing raw materials, supplies, and finished goods.
- Site Preparation: Cleaning, organizing, and preparing workspaces, warehouses, or job sites for daily operations.
- Assisting Skilled Workers: Aiding tradespeople (electricians, plumbers, or assembly line operators) by handing them tools and running errands.
- General Maintenance: Sweeping, mopping, taking out trash, and performing basic, routine equipment or facility checks.
- Safety Compliance: Following strict workplace health and safety rules and using basic hand or power tools.
Key Skills Required
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy objects, and perform strenuous tasks.
- Teamwork & Communication: Effectively following instructions and communicating clearly with supervisors and coworkers.
- Adaptability: Willingness to switch between diverse, unexpected tasks throughout the workday.
