Job Purpose
To operate, monitor, and control furnace operations in the copper production process, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality output in accordance with operational standards and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor copper furnaces (melting, refining, or holding furnaces) as per standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Charge raw materials such as copper scrap, cathodes, or concentrates into the furnace
- Control furnace temperature, pressure, and fuel/energy input to maintain optimal melting conditions
- Monitor melting process and ensure proper chemical composition and quality of molten copper
- Perform tapping, pouring, and transfer of molten metal safely
- Conduct routine inspections of furnace equipment and report any abnormalities or maintenance needs
- Maintain accurate production and operational records (temperature logs, output, downtime, etc.)
- Follow strict safety protocols, including use of PPE and handling of high-temperature materials
- Coordinate with maintenance and quality teams to ensure smooth operations
- Assist in troubleshooting operational issues and minimizing downtime
- Ensure housekeeping and cleanliness in furnace and surrounding work areas
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or technical certification in Mechanical / Metallurgical / Industrial field
- Minimum 2–5 years of experience in furnace operations, preferably in copper or metal industry
- Experience with Rautomead / RBD / continuous casting systems is an advantage
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of furnace operations and metal melting processes
- Knowledge of safety standards in high-temperature industrial environments
- Ability to read gauges, instruments, and process parameters
- Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Good teamwork and communication skills
- Physical ability to work in hot and demanding conditions
Working Conditions
- Exposure to high temperatures, dust, and industrial environment
- Shift-based work (day/night rotation)
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory
