Full job description

As a Farm Assistant, your primary mission is the daily care of our animals and the meticulous upkeep of our grounds. We have 15 acres! You are the steward of our outdoor guest experience, ensuring that every visitor—human or animal—finds the farm clean, safe, and beautiful. This role involves significant outdoor physical labor, machinery operation, and collaboration with our Vineyard Manager.

This position is Fri-Mon, starting at 9A. The length of days are dependent on weather and projects. Fridays & Saturdays will likely be from 9A-1 or 2P for mowing/weedeating, and Sun/Mon will evolve as projects arise or as weather permits outdoor tasks.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Animal Stewardship (Highest Daily Priority)

  • Perform daily feeding and health checks for our ducks, chickens, goats, sheep, and turkey.
  • Maintain a clean animal environment through weekly barn spot cleaning.
  • Execute deep-cleaning tasks monthly, including emptying and scrubbing all water troughs.

2. Grounds & Landscape Maintenance

  • Mowing: Operate a zero-turn mower weekly during warmer months (adjusted seasonally based on growth and rainfall).
  • Precision Grooming: Extensive weed-eater usage across multiple areas of the property.
  • Horticulture: Prune trees and shrubs, cut back branches, and assist with flower upkeep and hand-weeding.
  • Composting: Utilize the tractor to turn compost piles on a weekly basis.

3. Guest Area & Safety Upkeep

  • Maintain the patio and food court areas, ensuring they are free of waste and natural debris.
  • Check the playground daily for safety and cleanliness.
  • Provide general housekeeping for outdoor guest spaces, including clearing glassware and trash, wiping off tables.

4. Specialized Projects

  • Assist the Vineyard Manager with seasonal tasks: planting, bottling wine, and seasonal decorating.
  • Perform property maintenance: pressure washing buildings, painting, tool organization, and minor repairs.
