Overview
We are seeking a compassionate, collaborative Director of Mental Health to lead our equine-assisted psychotherapy program. This role oversees program development, staffing, scheduling, training, and quality assurance across all mental health services. The Director works closely with our clinicians and equine specialists to ensure safe, ethical, effective therapy that aligns with organizational values and clinical best practices. The ideal candidate has strong leadership skills, clinical experience, drive to grow the program, and a love of horses and people. Responsibilities
- Lead the development and execution of mental health programs tailored to diverse populations.
- Oversee clinical operations, ensuring adherence to best practices and regulatory standards.
- Supervise and mentor mental health professionals, including therapists, counselors, and support staff (direct supervision dependent on licensure).
- Integrate art therapy techniques into treatment plans to enhance therapeutic outcomes.
- Ensure ethical, trauma-informed, culturally responsive clinical practices
- Facilitate coordination between clinical staff and equine specialists
- Represent the program internally and externally to referral sources, funders, and community partners
- Participate in strategic planning, budgeting, and program evaluation
- Provide direct client services as appropriate
- Monitor program effectiveness through data analysis and client feedback; implement improvements as needed.
Experience
- Proven leadership experience in a mental health setting, preferably within clinical or community-based organizations.
- Extensive knowledge of mental health treatment modalities
- Master’s degree in mental health field (Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, MFT, etc.) required
- Active Utah clinical license (CMHC, LCSW, LMFT, Psychologist) with a minimum of 5 years providing mental health services
- Strong understanding of current mental health policies, ethical standards, and compliance requirements.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
- Prior experience in program development, staff supervision, and strategic planning is highly desirable. This role is integral to advancing our mission of improving the lives of those with physical, mental, and emotional challenges.
