Dining Room Supervisor Job Description:

Purpose of this Position:

The Dining Room Supervisor ensures the comfort of guests in the dining area and that food service is delivered efficiently and with a professional demeanor. Ste. Anne’s restaurant provides a high level of food quality, value, consistency and satisfaction to the guests, and is considered essential to Ste. Anne’s 4 Diamond hotel standard. You will work closely with the culinary team to ensure complete familiarity with the menu and ingredients, the delivery of high-quality meals, and adherence to food safety standards to create a memorable culinary experience for our guests.

Job Summary:

  • Full-time, permanent position
  • Starting Wage: $26.50 – 28.50 per hour
  • Day and Evening shifts
  • Paid bi-weekly

Responsibilities:

1. Manage reservations and waitlists, and arrange tables to accommodate guests.

  • Check emails for the Dining Room.
  • Check the Pass Off (special requests) each day and update as needed.
  • Check the Daily Report for groups and special services.
  • Print reservations and assign sections and tables for the service, ensuring each section is fairly balanced.
  • When opening, ensure the dish pit, the spa waiting room and reception are properly set up and ready for service.
  • Ensure the reservations sheet is ready with sections, assigned tables, clean menus, cutlery roll ups, and side plates for applicable tables.

2. Provide high levels of customer service, addressing guest needs and ensuring a pleasant dining experience.

  • Check that the previous services’ checklist is completed.
  • Before breaks, ensure duties to be done between services are completed.
  • Coordinate private food services, and ensure set up is completed.
  • During services, walk the floor periodically to ensure the progress of the service and guest satisfaction.
  • Be aware of any allergies or special dietary restrictions, and follow applicable protocol, including following up with Dining and Kitchen staff.
  • Be aware of any anniversaries and/or birthdays and follow up with the server.
  • Greet all guests with a smile and welcome them to our Dining Room, ask for their names and check off them off the reservation form.
  • Take menus and water with you and escort the guests to table, informing them of who their server will be and any specials.

3. Ensure the staff and dining area are clean and organized and orderly, adhering to health and safety regulations and Four Diamond Spa standards.

  • Check that all tables are properly set and clean.
  • Assist resetting tables for next guests or services.
  • Ensure the Dining staff are following the dress code.
  • Co-ordinate the weekly cleaning list.
  • Co-ordinate polishing cutlery.
  • Co-ordinate cleaning kitchen back side, coffee and cappuccino machines for maintenance.
  • Co-ordinate the Dining Room cleaning list, i.e. tables, chairs, fans, furniture, etc.
  • Clean and organize the table at the host area.
  • Co-ordinate the cleaning and sanitizing list, i.e. menus, phones, light switches, etc.
  • Assist with Dining Room inventory and placing order for groceries, coffee, tea, etc.

4. Supervise and train dining room personnel, including servers, hosts, and bus staff.

  • Conduct pre-shift meetings for servers before lunch, tea and dinner service.
  • Assign duties to be done between services.
  • Coordinate breaks for staff.
  • Make a point to touch base with all employees who are in on your shift.
  • Make sure expectations are clear, and when they are achieved praise staff publicly if possible.
  • Assist with staff reviews when necessary.
  • Help maintain a cohesive, cooperative work environment through team building and motivation.

Job Requirements:

  • Days, evenings, holidays or weekends as business needs require.
  • Able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Able to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Able to squat, kneel, bend, lift, twist at the waist, and reach above the shoulder.
  • Able to hold and balance a server’s tray.

Job Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 year’s experience as a server.
  • Minimum of 1 year’s experience in a supervisory position.
  • Experience in a fine dining establishment is an asset.
