Duties

  • Assist dentists during a wide range of procedures including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry by preparing treatment rooms and handing instruments efficiently.
  • Operate dental equipment such as X-ray machines, 3D scanners, and medical imaging devices while adhering to strict aseptic techniques and infection control protocols.
  • Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays), ensuring proper positioning and safety measures for patients.
  • Manage patient records using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Dentrix or Eaglesoft; document treatment details accurately while maintaining HIPAA compliance.
  • Support front desk operations by acting as a dental receptionist—scheduling appointments, verifying insurance information, and assisting with patient check-in/out processes.
  • Maintain a sterile environment by following infection control guidelines, including sterilizing instruments and managing medical waste appropriately.
  • Collaborate with team members in four-handed dentistry practices to optimize workflow and improve patient care efficiency
  • Educate patients on oral health care practices, post-treatment instructions, and upcoming appointments to promote ongoing dental wellness.

Experience

  • Prior experience working in a dental clinic setting is highly preferred; familiarity with general dentistry procedures is essential.
  • Proficiency in dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting, taking X-rays, and operating dental equipment such as 3D scanners.
  • Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control practices, and aseptic techniques to ensure safe treatment environments.
  • Experience with EMR systems like Dentrix or Eaglesoft; ability to navigate electronic health records efficiently.
  • Understanding of HIPAA regulations related to medical records confidentiality and data security.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients of all ages, especially in pediatric dentistry or pediatrics-focused practices.
  • Certification in X-ray technology or radiography is often required; additional certifications in CPR or first aid are advantageous.
