Job Overview
We are seeking a passionate and energetic Activities Assistant to join our dedicated team in creating vibrant, engaging, and meaningful experiences for our residents. In this vital role, you will design and facilitate a variety of recreational activities tailored to the interests and needs of seniors, including those with memory impairments such as Alzheimer’s and dementia. Duties
- Plan, organize, and lead diverse recreational activities that promote socialization, cognitive stimulation, and physical activity for residents.
- Collaborate with nursing staff and caregivers to develop personalized activity plans that meet individual needs, especially for residents requiring memory or dementia care.
- Assist with daily living activities (ADLs) by encouraging participation in activities that support independence and dignity.
- Manage activity schedules efficiently to ensure a balanced mix of entertainment, therapeutic exercises, arts and crafts, outings, and special events.
- Foster an inclusive environment by working with individuals with disabilities or special needs, ensuring everyone feels valued and engaged.
- Maintain accurate records of resident participation, preferences, and progress to inform ongoing care plans.
- Communicate effectively with residents, families, and team members to coordinate activities and gather feedback for continuous improvement.
Skills
- Proven experience in event planning, recreational therapy, or senior care environments such as assisted living or nursing homes.
- Strong understanding of Alzheimer’s care, memory care strategies, and dementia-related issues.
- Excellent communication skills to connect empathetically with residents of all ages and backgrounds.
- Ability to assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) including mobility support and personal care when needed.
- Skilled in schedule management to coordinate multiple activities seamlessly throughout each day.
- Knowledge of aging issues counseling and social work principles to support emotional well-being.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities or in long-term care settings is highly desirable.
