About our Anchorage Office
Teck’s Anchorage office is home to an administrative team supporting our Red Dog Operations, one of the world’s largest zinc mines, which is operated under an innovative agreement between Teck and landowner NANA, a Regional Alaska Native corporation owned by the Iñupiat of northwest Alaska.
Role Overview
Reporting to the Supervisor, Accounting, the Accounting Assistant I is accountable for the day-to-day accounting functions necessary to run the Accounts Payable function for the Red Dog Operations.
Responsibilities:
Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
Responsible for accounts payable invoice processing including ensuring proper approvals and documentation prior to payment, coding, data entry and researching discrepancies
Provides clerical and administrative support to the Finance department including but not limited to answering phones, filing, greeting visitors, receptionist and administrative tasks
Prioritize invoices according to cash discount potential and payment terms
Update vendor mailing address and tax information in GenCID as required
Respond to all vendor inquiries
Reconcile vendor statements and researches and corrects discrepancies
Maintain files and documentation thoroughly and accurately, in accordance with company policy and accepted accounting practice
Research and provide documentation for requested accounts payable inquiries
Back up for payment process
Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent General Educational Development (GED) certificate
One (1) year of experience of general office, clerical accounting experience
Substitution for experience requirement:
Post-secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the experience requirement if it includes at least 3 semesters or equivalent hours in Accounting
Experience showing good communication, interpersonal, motivational and organizational skills
Computer related experience to include basic knowledge to use Microsoft (MS) MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook
Proficient writing skills; be highly organized and able to work with minimal guidance
Be task oriented, self-motivated and have the inherent ability to multi-task, work under pressure, meet deadlines and work as a team-player
Strong attention to detail and follow-through skills. The ability to be at work consistently, predictably and independently
Ability to adhere to confidentiality standards
Observance of a level of personal hygiene/appearance that meets generally accepted business standards and expectations
Sufficient language skills to read and comprehend basic instructions, short correspondence, and memos, write simple correspondence, and effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations
