Full job description

Job Purpose

To operate, monitor, and control furnace operations in the copper production process, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality output in accordance with operational standards and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor copper furnaces (melting, refining, or holding furnaces) as per standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Charge raw materials such as copper scrap, cathodes, or concentrates into the furnace
  • Control furnace temperature, pressure, and fuel/energy input to maintain optimal melting conditions
  • Monitor melting process and ensure proper chemical composition and quality of molten copper
  • Perform tapping, pouring, and transfer of molten metal safely
  • Conduct routine inspections of furnace equipment and report any abnormalities or maintenance needs
  • Maintain accurate production and operational records (temperature logs, output, downtime, etc.)
  • Follow strict safety protocols, including use of PPE and handling of high-temperature materials
  • Coordinate with maintenance and quality teams to ensure smooth operations
  • Assist in troubleshooting operational issues and minimizing downtime
  • Ensure housekeeping and cleanliness in furnace and surrounding work areas

Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma or technical certification in Mechanical / Metallurgical / Industrial field
  • Minimum 2–5 years of experience in furnace operations, preferably in copper or metal industry
  • Experience with Rautomead / RBD / continuous casting systems is an advantage

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of furnace operations and metal melting processes
  • Knowledge of safety standards in high-temperature industrial environments
  • Ability to read gauges, instruments, and process parameters
  • Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Good teamwork and communication skills
  • Physical ability to work in hot and demanding conditions

Working Conditions

  • Exposure to high temperatures, dust, and industrial environment
  • Shift-based work (day/night rotation)
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory
