Key Responsibilities
- Loading and Unloading: Forklift operators are primarily responsible for loading and unloading materials from trucks and trailers. They ensure that goods are transported safely to designated areas within warehouses or construction sites. 2
- Transporting Materials: They move materials between receiving, storage, production, and shipping areas, maintaining a smooth flow of products. 1
- Inventory Management: Operators track inventory using RF scanners and warehouse management systems (WMS). They may also assist with stocktaking and cycle counts to ensure accurate inventory records. 2
- Securing Loads: Before transportation, forklift operators secure loads and verify pallet stability, ensuring that items are properly wrapped or shrink-wrapped to prevent damage during movement. 1
- Equipment Operation: They operate various types of forklifts and material handling equipment, including sit-down and stand-up forklifts, pallet jacks, and cherry pickers. 1
- Safety Compliance: Forklift operators must adhere to safety management standards and legal/OSHA safety guidelines. This includes performing pre-shift equipment inspections and reporting any hazards or equipment defects immediately. 1
- Communication: Effective communication with other team members is essential to ensure safety and efficiency in busy work environments
