Executive Leadership – Land Transportation (VP/Head of Land Transportation)
Role summary
Owns the end-to-end land transportation strategy and performance across safety, service, cost, compliance, people, and asset utilization. Leads multi-site operations and sets the operating model, governance, and standards.
Key responsibilities
- Define network strategy: capacity planning, footprint, lane strategy, insource/outsourcing mix
- Set annual operating plan (budget, targets, productivity roadmap) and deliver P&L outcomes
- Establish safety culture and governance; sponsor enterprise safety initiatives and audits
- Lead large multi-layer org (Directors/Regional Leaders) and succession planning
- Oversee compliance for DOT/FMCSA (or local equivalent), hours-of-service, permits, hazmat (as applicable)
- Drive continuous improvement: Lean/Kaizen, automation, telematics, scheduling/dispatch modernization
- Own vendor strategy: brokers, carriers, 3PLs, maintenance partners, fuel programs
- Executive stakeholder management (commercial, supply chain, HR, finance, legal, customers)
