We are seeking a motivated Commis to join our professional kitchen team in a private property. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Chef de Partie and Head Chef to prepare, cook, and present high-quality dishes. This role is ideal for someone passionate about food, eager to learn, and committed to maintaining high standards of hygiene and kitchen operations.
Key Responsibilities – commis chef duties
- Assist with daily food preparation, including washing, chopping, and portioning ingredients.
- Prepare basic dishes and components to the specification of senior chefs.
- Maintain consistent portion control and presentation standards.
- Ensure mise en place is complete and stations are well organised.
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and responsibly.
- Support senior chefs during service, including plating and garnishing.
- Follow recipes and menu specifications, adapting to menu changes when required.
- Adhere to food safety and hygiene standards, including HACCP documentation.
- Contribute to a positive team environment and participate in training and development.
Skills and Qualifications
- Basic culinary qualification (NVQ Level 1/2 or equivalent) or demonstrable kitchen experience.
- Familiarity with food safety and hygiene regulations
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow recipes precisely.
- Good time management and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to learn, take direction and develop culinary skills.
- Physical ability to stand for long periods and lift kitchen equipment/stock as required.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative attitude.
- Flexibility with shift patterns including evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
