Job Summary
The CNC Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC woodworking machines to produce custom joinery components according to technical drawings and design specifications. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of woodworking materials, CAD/CAM software, and machine programming for precise and efficient production.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate CNC router, milling, and cutting machines for wood panels, MDF, veneer, and solid timber.
- Review and interpret technical drawings, cutting lists, and CAD/CAM files.
- Prepare and load programs using software such as AutoCAD, AlphaCAM, or WoodWOP.
- Set up tools, fixtures, and materials according to job requirements.
- Conduct test runs and make necessary adjustments to ensure accuracy and quality.
- Monitor machine operations and maintain tight tolerances and surface finishes.
- Perform daily machine inspections, cleaning, and basic maintenance.
- Collaborate with designers, production engineers, and carpenters to ensure precise execution of joinery parts.
- Maintain accurate production records and report any deviations or machine issues.
- Follow all safety and quality standards set by Oak Wood Joinery.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or Technical Certificate in Wood Technology / Mechanical Engineering / CNC Operation.
- Minimum 5 years of experience operating CNC machines in a joinery or woodworks factory.
- Strong knowledge of CNC programming (G-code, M-code) and CAD/CAM software.
- Ability to interpret detailed shop drawings and technical plans.
- Hands-on experience with wood materials, MDF, veneers, and laminates.
- Basic mechanical and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong attention to detail and quality.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Skills
- Must have \eExperience in 5-axis CNC machines (e.g., Homag, Biesse, SCM).
- Familiarity with nesting, engraving, and routing operations.
- Understanding of joinery assembly processes and finishing techniques.
