Your day to day
The Host/Hostess serves as the first point of contact for guests at a restaurant, providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere and ensuring efficient seating arrangements. This role involves greeting guests, managing reservations, coordinating with servers and kitchen staff, and maintaining the overall flow of the dining area.
- Welcome guests as they arrive, engaging with them in a friendly and professional manner.
- Manage the seating chart to optimize table turnover and accommodate reservations and walk-in guests.
- Escort guests to their tables and present menus, providing assistance as needed.
- Answer phone calls and inquiries regarding reservations, availability, and dining options
- Record reservations accurately in the system, confirming details and special requests with guests.
- Maintain an organized reservation book or system, updating it with new bookings and cancellations.
- Communicate effectively with servers, bartenders, and kitchen staff to ensure smooth service.
- Relay special requests, dietary restrictions, and other guest preferences to the appropriate personnel.
- Coordinate seating assignments and pacing of tables to optimize service flow.
- Provide guests with information about the restaurant, including menus, specials, and promotions.
- Address guest inquiries, concerns, and special requests promptly and courteously.
- Anticipate guest needs and offer assistance to enhance their dining experience.
- Keep the host/hostess stand desk clean, organized, and well-stocked with necessary supplies.
- Monitor the waiting area and manage guest wait times effectively, providing updates as needed.
- Assist with coat check, if applicable, and handle lost and found items.
- Promote special menu items, beverages, and promotions to guests during seating and interaction.
- Encourage guests to participate in loyalty programs or provide feedback through surveys.
- Collaborate with management to implement strategies for increasing sales and customer satisfaction.

- High school diploma or equivalent; hospitality or customer service training is a plus.
- Previous experience in a host/hostess or customer service role preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a friendly and outgoing personality.
- Strong organizational abilities, with the ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Ability to remain calm and courteous under pressure, especially during busy periods.
- Knowledge of reservation systems and basic computer proficiency.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
