Duties and responsibilities:
- Presenting products to potential customers
- Explaining features and benefits of products
- Answering questions about products
- Assisting with orders
- Presenting price quotes to customers based on information from the company’s catalog or sales manual
- Greeting customers
- Helping customers find items in the store
- Checking for stock at other branches or ordering requested stock for customers
Some of the common qualifications for a salesman are:
- A degree in sales, marketing, commerce or a related field (optional)
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to negotiate, persuade, and meet sales targets
- Honesty and ethical conduct
- Alignment with the organization’s values and goals
- Knowledge of the product and the market
- Customer service and interpersonal skills
- Active listening and questioning skills
- Emotional intelligence and empathy
- Flexibility and adaptability
