Duties and responsibilities:

  • Presenting products to potential customers
  • Explaining features and benefits of products
  • Answering questions about products
  • Assisting with orders
  • Presenting price quotes to customers based on information from the company’s catalog or sales manual
  • Greeting customers
  • Helping customers find items in the store
  • Checking for stock at other branches or ordering requested stock for customers

Some of the common qualifications for a salesman are:

  • A degree in sales, marketing, commerce or a related field (optional)
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to negotiate, persuade, and meet sales targets
  • Honesty and ethical conduct
  • Alignment with the organization’s values and goals
  • Knowledge of the product and the market
  • Customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Active listening and questioning skills
