Key responsibilities:
- Prepare and assist in the production of monthly management accounts, ensuring accuracy and timely submission.
- Perform variance analysis and provide commentary to explain movements against budget and prior periods.
- Support the monthly forecasting and annual budgeting processes, liaising with budget holders to gather inputs.
- Process and reconcile balance sheet items including prepayments, accruals, intercompany balances and bank reconciliations.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close activities and liaise with external auditors as required.
- Maintain and update financial models and reports; ensure consistency of assumptions and presentation.
- Provide ad-hoc financial analysis and support to commercial teams and non-finance stakeholders, explaining financial data in clear, non-technical terms.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of reporting processes and controls, including automation opportunities.
Person specification:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a finance or accounting role, ideally within management accounting, reporting, or a similar area.
- Good understanding of accounting fundamentals (debits/credits, prepayments, accruals) and management accounts processes.
- Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas) are essential; experience with accounting systems (e.g. Navision, SAP, Oracle) is desirable.
- Organised, methodical and able to meet strict reporting deadlines with attention to detail.
- Good communication skills with the ability to build effective working relationships and explain financial information to non-finance colleagues.
- Qualifications such as AAT, part-qualified ACCA/CIMA or equivalent are advantageous but not essential.
