Job Summary

The Watchkeeper is responsible for maintaining the safety and security of Nauru Medical Centre through continuous monitoring of CCTV systems, surveillance equipment, hospital premises, and security operations. The role includes basic maintenance and troubleshooting of CCTV and security equipment, monitoring access control systems, reporting incidents, and ensuring a secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff.

Key Responsibilities

Security Monitoring

  • Monitor CCTV cameras and surveillance systems on a 24/7 rotational basis.
  • Observe and identify suspicious activities, security breaches, safety hazards, and unauthorized access.
  • Report security incidents immediately to the appropriate authorities and hospital management.
  • Maintain accurate logs of security observations, incidents, and actions taken.
  • Monitor hospital entrances, exits, parking areas, and restricted zones.

CCTV and Security Systems Maintenance

  • Conduct routine inspections of CCTV cameras, recording devices, monitors, and related equipment.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and maintenance of CCTV systems and security devices.
  • Ensure all cameras are functioning properly and recordings are stored according to hospital policies.
  • Coordinate with external vendors or technicians for major repairs and maintenance.
  • Maintain inventory records of security and surveillance equipment.

Access Control

  • Monitor and manage access control systems.
  • Verify and document visitor access to restricted areas.
  • Assist in enforcing hospital security policies and procedures.
  • Issue and monitor staff and visitor identification badges when required.

Safety and Emergency Response

  • Respond promptly to security incidents, emergencies, and alarm activations.
  • Assist during fire drills, emergency evacuations, and disaster response activities.
  • Coordinate with hospital departments and local authorities during emergencies.
  • Monitor compliance with hospital safety protocols.

Reporting and Documentation

  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly security reports.
  • Maintain incident reports, CCTV footage records, and maintenance logs.
  • Preserve and retrieve CCTV footage when requested by authorized personnel.
  • Ensure confidentiality and proper handling of surveillance records.

General Duties

  • Conduct routine patrols of hospital premises when required.
  • Support hospital administration in maintaining a safe and secure environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Technical certification in CCTV, electronics, security systems, or related field is preferred.
  • Previous experience in security operations, surveillance monitoring, or CCTV maintenance.
  • Knowledge of CCTV systems, access control systems, and security equipment.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with surveillance software.
