Full job description
About Automotive Dynamics
Automotive Dynamics is an independent automotive repair shop serving Sun City and the surrounding West Valley. We take care of long-time customers and keep them on the road with honest, high-quality repairs across domestic, Asian, and European vehicles. We work out of a fully enclosed-bay shop — climate-controlled, well-lit, and a real advantage when summer temperatures hit triple digits. Our techs are skilled, our equipment is dialed in, and our customers come back because we do the job right the first time. We’re looking for a Shop Manager who can run the day-to-day, build the team, and grow the business alongside the owner.
About the Role
The Shop Manager is responsible for the full operation of the shop: scheduling work, writing accurate estimates, managing parts and vendors, supervising and developing technicians, hitting revenue and gross-profit targets, and making sure every customer leaves happy. This is a hands-on leadership role with real ownership — you’ll set the tone for the shop and be measured on results.
Responsibilities:
Run the daily operation of the shop — scheduling, work-in-progress flow, bay assignments, and quality control
Greet customers, write up service tickets, and produce clear, accurate written estimates
Communicate with customers throughout the repair: status updates, additional work approvals, and final review
Supervise, coach, and develop technicians; conduct performance feedback and assist with hiring
Manage parts ordering, vendor relationships, and shop inventory; control parts margin and returns
Monitor labor productivity, hours billed vs. hours worked, comeback rate, and average repair order
Track shop financial performance with the owner: revenue, gross profit, parts margin, and labor margin
Maintain the shop’s reputation through accurate diagnoses, fair pricing, and standing behind the work
Ensure compliance with Arizona vehicle inspection and emissions requirements where applicable
Keep the shop safe, clean, organized, and OSHA-compliant; manage hazardous waste handling and disposal
Handle customer escalations, warranty claims, and dispute resolution professionally
Help select and onboard new tools, equipment, and shop management software as the shop grows
Required Qualifications:
5+ years managing or leading an automotive repair shop, service department, or service drive
Strong working knowledge of automotive systems across domestic, Asian, and European vehicles
Proven ability to write accurate repair estimates and explain repairs to non-technical customers
Experience using shop management software (Mitchell 1, ALLDATA, Tekmetric, Shop-Ware, ShopKey, or similar)
Demonstrated ability to hit shop performance targets (ARO, gross profit, productivity, CSI)
Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record (must move customer vehicles in and out of bays)
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
