Houseman – Job Description
Department: Housekeeping
Reports To: Executive Housekeeper / General Manager / AGM
Job Summary
The Houseman is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and overall presentation of
the hotel’s public areas, guest corridors, and service spaces. This role ensures that the hotel
creates a positive first impression for guests and supports guest satisfaction, repeat visits, and
overall hotel revenue. The Houseman also assists with room setup, luggage handling, and
general operational needs to ensure smooth hotel operations.
Duties and Responsibilities
Guest Experience & Sales Support
- Maintain clean and inviting public areas, corridors, and service spaces to enhance guest
satisfaction.
- Respond promptly and courteously to guest requests for items such as rollaway beds,
cribs, or assistance with luggage.
- Ensure that all guest and public areas are visually appealing and functional, contributing
to a positive guest experience and encouraging repeat business.
- Report maintenance issues, lighting problems, or other conditions that could impact
guest comfort or satisfaction.
- Assist with special setups or guest requests that enhance the guest experience and
support hotel revenue opportunities.
Cleaning & Operational Responsibilities
- Clean corridors, guest areas, service areas, and linen closets daily.
- Empty housekeepers’ trash and linen bags, depositing them in proper disposal areas.
- Deposit linens down chutes and transport trash to dumpsters as required.
- Vacuum corridors, public areas, and guest rooms as needed.
- Sweep and mop service landings, vending areas, and other common spaces.
- Clean and sanitize public restrooms multiple times daily to ensure a safe and pleasant
environment.
- Maintain elevators, fire doors, and public areas to ensure hotel safety and presentation
standards.
- Assist in light maintenance when needed.
- Maintain outside grounds and landscaping daily to support curb appeal and first
impressions.
- Assist in unloading deliveries and proper storage of supplies to maintain efficient
operations.
- Clean guest rooms when needed to support housekeeping and guest satisfaction goals.
General Responsibilities
- Perform any duties inherent to the position or assigned by corporate or supervisory staff
in a cooperative, timely, and professional manner.
- Maintain professional appearance, follow grooming and uniform standards, and uphold
