Stokes & Company, CPAs, is a growing, client-focused public accounting firm serving small and mid-sized businesses throughout Upstate South Carolina and Western North Carolina. We provide a comprehensive suite of services including accounting, tax compliance, tax strategy, payroll, and advisory support.

We are seeking an experienced Accounting & Tax Manager who is passionate about working with business owners and delivering high-value service. This role offers the opportunity to lead client relationships, contribute to firm growth, and play an active role in developing both clients and team members.

Position Summary

The Accounting & Tax Manager is responsible for managing a portfolio of small business clients, overseeing accounting and tax engagements, and delivering proactive advice. This individual serves as a primary client contact and is expected to provide both technical expertise and a high level of personal service.

This role also includes leadership responsibilities, including reviewing work, mentoring team members, and contributing to the firm’s ongoing growth and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and serve as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of small business clients
  • Review and oversee preparation of financial statements and monthly accounting deliverables
  • Prepare and review federal and state tax returns (S Corporations, Partnerships, and Individuals)
  • Provide proactive tax planning and business advisory services
  • Supervise, coach, and develop staff accountants and senior accountants
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of engagements in a deadline-driven environment
  • Identify opportunities to improve client operations, tax efficiency, and financial performance
  • Collaborate with firm leadership on process improvements, client experience, and growth initiatives
