Full job description

This is a semi-skilled level of utility maintenance and janitorial work performed in and around the Water Division facilities. Work involves the performance of manual labor and various tasks related to the maintenance, cleaning, and repairs of facilities. Assignments are performed in accordance with established procedures under general supervision. Specific instructions are received on new work assignments or special cleaning/maintenance problems. Work is normally subject to inspection upon completion for compliance with instructions.

This list may not include all tasks and/or knowledge which may be expected of the employee, nor does it cover all specific duties which may be required.

  • Janitorial duties in the Water Division facilities.
  • Landscaping, snow and ice removal, sidewalk cleaning and other related tasks at Water Division facilities.
  • Truck and equipment operation for transporting workers, tools, and materials.Room setup, tear down and cleanup for meetings.
  • Pickup and deliver mail; move books and furniture as required.
  • Inspect, maintain and repair building related equipment.
  • Painting Water Division facilities and equipment including the operation of relevant equipment and tools.
  • Performs related work including work in positions classified above and below this position as required.
  • Update and maintain accurate data for maintenance projects and inspections that have been completed in eMaint (Cmms software data base).
  • Create work orders in eMaint for maintenance staff for building and grounds repairs that need addressed.

Education/Experience:

  • Graduation from high school or vocational/technical school; experience with facilities maintenance / Custodial or any equivalent combination of training and experience to provide the following knowledge, abilities, and skills.

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Possession and maintenance of a Valid Illinois Driver’s License.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Work is performed in and around all City Water Division facilities in all conditions including hot, cold, wet, windy and dry weather. Work requires:

  • Traveling to Water Division sites and the ability to walk/work in variety of natural and altered ground surfaces which maybe uneven, wet or slippery or sloped.
  • Visual ability and manual dexterity to use a computer and safely operate small tools including motorized tools.
  • Ability to sit at a computer station and within vehicles sometimes for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Ability to enter, exit and safely operate motorized equipment.
  • Availability for occasiona out-of-town travel to attend required training.
