Job Summary
America’s Flag Football in Thibodaux is URGENTLY seeking dedicated and enthusiastic referees to oversee youth flag football games. The ideal candidate will not only ensure fair play and enforce game rules but also promote a positive and FUN environment for everyone. This role is essential in fostering sportsmanship, safety, and enjoyment for the kids and the parents alike. You do not need prior experience in sports officiating, but you will need to have knowledge of the sport of football, along with strong communication skills and the ability to manage conflicts effectively.
America’s Flag Football is a premier youth co-ed flag football league offering FUN flag football for kids ages 4 through 13 in Thibodaux. All games are played on Monday evenings at the Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex football field, with games at 5:30pm, 6:30pm, and 7:30pm. The season has already kicked off, annd games are played every Monday evening until May 4th.
Please note that this is not a part-time or full-time job. This is a side gig primarily for those who are enthusiastic about football and want to make an impact for kids while making some side money. However, dedication and time must be put in by referees leading up to the season to prepare for enforcement of the rules. You must be at least 14 years old or older (preferably 16+) to become a referee in our league.
Referees are paid by the game. Head referees are paid $20 per game while 2nd (back judge) referees are paid $15 per game. We will have three hours of games every Monday night, which means you have the opportunity to earn up to $45-60 every Monday night working up to 3 games. Opportunities to earn even more by helping set up fields prior to the start of games is possible as well.
Duties
- Enforce rules and regulations during flag football games to ensure fair play.
- Make quick, accurate decisions on game situations, including penalties and scoring.
- Communicate clearly with players, coaches, and spectators to maintain order and sportsmanship.
- Manage game flow by starting, stopping, and resuming play as needed.
- Address conflicts or disputes calmly and professionally to de-escalate tensions.
- Ensure the safety of all participants by monitoring game conduct and enforcing safety protocols.
- Maintain accurate records of game statistics and incidents when required.
Experience
- Prior experience in refereeing/officiating is not required, but you must have good knowledge of football and flag football. We will prepare you for refereeing, but you must cooperate with us and be prepared to learn on the move and quickly as the season’s already kicked off and your training will only be during live games.
