What is the Role?
As the Development Manager at Coney Island Prep (CIP), your work is 100% dedicated to providing opportunities for our scholars so they can develop the academic skills and character necessary for success in selective colleges and universities, and the career of their choice. You thrive in mission-driven work involving supporting grant proposals, driving individual giving campaigns, prospecting donors, processing gifts and acknowledgements, and managing scheduling and special events. Fundraising is your chosen career, and you’re accustomed to supporting all money raising activities as well as managing the day-to-day operations of the development team. Through this work, you will secure funding that will provide academic excellence to CIP scholars including after school robotics programs, robust college scholarships, and study abroad programs – and ultimately, you will support the academic success of the future leaders of our community.
The Development Manager will join our three-person marketing and development team. The position is based in our network office in Coney Island, Brooklyn, with the flexibility to work from home two days a week after onboarding is complete. The Development Manager will be hired by and report directly to the Director of Development and Communications. Although this position has no direct reports, the person in the role will manage processes and systems with an orientation toward fundraising excellence.
What You’ll Be Asked To Do
Deliver exceptional results and opportunities for our scholars through donor management and administration.
- Manage two individual giving campaigns and a fundraising event annually
- Manage the acknowledgement process for all gifts, including updating the CRM, properly thanking donors, and processing donor tax receipts
- Manage the grant calendar, including drafting and assembling letters of interest, grant proposals, reports, acknowledgement letters, budgets, and proactively anticipating grants’ unique needs and collaborating with other departments accordingly
- Research and evaluate potential funders and related grant opportunities
- Submit purchase orders in accordance with the Finance Team’s standard operating procedures
- Manage the Director’s Council, comprised of community volunteers, to support fundraising efforts
Collaborate and co-lead by navigating across organizational layers to achieve success inspecial events and campaigns.
- Work collaboratively with the Director of Development & Communications to build campaigns and external communications across various channels (email, social media, direct mail)
- Execute our annual fundraising event by managing all logistics and leveraging the strengths of yourself and colleagues across the organization
- Work closely with each campus to gather information and assets to support special events and campaigns
- Assist with events such as Signing Day, Graduation, and community events
- Travel to campuses and event locations as needed
