Iowa Valley Community School District is looking for an Elementary Office Secretary for the 2026-2027 School Year.
Iowa Valley is located in Marengo, Iowa, which is 10 miles North of I-80 and approx. 30 minutes West of the Iowa City/Cedar Rapids Corridor.
An Elementary School Secretary provides administrative & clerical support to ensure smooth school operations, and is the go to person for the principal, staff, students, & parents.
Core Responsibilities:
Administrative Support: The Secretary assists the principal in managing daily school operations, coordinating office activities, and relieving the principal of routine administrative tasks. This could include maintaining calendars, scheduling meetings, arranging travel, and overseeing the use of school facilities.
Communication & Public Relations: They serve as the first point of contact for students, parents, staff, & the public, handling inquiries, distributing information, & maintaining positive relationships. Effective oral & written communication is essential.
Record Keeping & Reporting: Responsibilities include maintaining student records, attendance, enrollment and personal files. Secretaries compile reports, handbooks, & special projects, and ensure compliance with district polices and legal requirements.
Financial & Clerical Duties: They may process invoices, maintain petty cash, and assist with timesheets. Tasks may include typing correspondence, preparing forms, & operating office equipment such as phones, computers, copiers, & calculators.
Student Support & Safety: Secretaries may assist with student health care, administer first aid, monitor student behavior, and ensure safety during school hours. May also handle disciplinary documentation and coordinate student registration.
Office Management: The secretary coordinates workflow, prioritizes office tasks and ensures efficient operation of the school office.
