SUNY Cortland is accepting applications for full-time Cleaner positions as part of an ongoing recruitment effort to establish a hiring pool for current and future vacancies. Applicants will be contacted for interviews as needed, and those who advance will be added to the hiring pool. This pool will be used to fill vacancies as they arise. Work schedules will vary depending on position availability.
Cleaners perform a variety of routine manual tasks that require light to heavy physical effort. Responsibilities include cleaning and maintaining assigned areas within residence halls, academic buildings, and the surrounding campus grounds and sidewalks. Major Responsibilities
General Cleaning and Maintenance
- Perform a variety of routine manual work under supervision.
- Use mops, brushes, detergents, buffers, floor scrubbers, and other cleaning implements to wash floors, corridors, stairs and stairwells, walls, partitions ,windows from the inside of buildings, etc.
- Use manual and/or mechanical equipment to strip, vacuum, and wax floors, and shampoo carpets.
- Use hand-dusting equipment to dust assigned areas.
- Strip the wax from furniture; clean and polish furniture.
- Use designated equipment to polish wood and metal fixtures and equipment.
- Use hand-operated equipment and detergents to scrub and clean all areas of lavatories, such as sinks, urinals, toilets, etc.
Safety and Hazard Removal
- Pick up and remove any hazardous items from floors, furniture, and equipment, and place them in designated receptacles or appropriate locations.
Furniture and Equipment
- Move furniture and equipment in connection with cleaning and care functions.
- Change curtains and drapes, and hang pictures or other decorative objects.
