Saul’s Restaurant & Delicatessen is a California version of a classic New York Jewish Deli that has been serving cuisine that ranges from the eastern european roots of classic deli (pickles, schnitzel, stuffed cabbage), but include the middle eastern elements of the jewish diaspora (hummus, falafel, malawach) in Berkeley since 1984. We’re a neighborhood institutional restaurant with lots of regulars and we are looking for an experienced Counter Cashier to join our team.

Our hospitality philosophy draws on the perspective of Danny Meyer’s “Setting the Table.” We believe that the virtuous cycle of hospitality starts with our team and extends to our guests, community and suppliers. We believe that people dine with us to be seen as well as to be served. We’re looking for warm team players who have qualities of a hospitalitarian including optimism, work ethic, curiosity, integrity and empathy. “Not my job” is not in our vocabulary. Our culinary philosophy is rooted in Berkieley’s slow-food ethos. We source high quality produce from local farms, and scratch make everything we can including house-smoked pastrami, house-made pita bread and bagels and so much more.

As a Counter Cashier your duties will include:

• Taking accurate food and drink orders from customers
• Relaying orders to the kitchen staff and ensure timely delivery of meals
• Serving food and beverages to customers in a professional and courteous manner
• Handling cash transactions and process payments accurately
• Collaborating with other team members to provide excellent customer service

Requirements:

• Previous experience as a Counter Cashier or in a similar role preferred
• Knowledge of bussing, Toast POS, food service, food handling, basic math, hospitality, customer service, food industry, food safety, and cash handling is desirable
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with customers and team members
• Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work well under pressure while maintaining a positive attitude
• Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
