Full job description

The School Kitchen/Food Service Worker supports the daily operation of the school nutrition program by assisting with food preparation, serving meals, maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment, and ensuring students receive nutritious meals in a positive, welcoming setting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with food preparation, cooking, and portioning of meals according to established menus and nutrition guidelines
  • Serve breakfast and/or lunch to students in a courteous and efficient manner
  • Operate kitchen equipment safely (ovens, warmers, slicers, dishwashers, etc.)
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen, serving lines, dishes, utensils, and food storage areas
  • Follow food safety, sanitation, and hygiene standards (HACCP guidelines)
  • Assist with receiving, stocking, rotating, and storing food and supplies
  • Monitor portion sizes and minimize food waste
  • Support accurate meal counts and production records as required
  • Work collaboratively with kitchen staff, administration, and school personnel
  • Model professionalism and positive interactions with students
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Food Service Director or Kitchen Manager
