Kitchen Assistant

Full job description

This position is responsible for:

Assisting in the preparation and serving of meals; cleans kitchen equipment and washes dishes; sweeps, mops, and waxes floors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assists in preparing meals, beverages and snacks; washes and chops fruits and vegetables; mixes beverages and arranges snacks.
  • Assists in serving meals ensuring appropriate proportions are provided.
  • Washes, dries, and stores pots, pans, plates, glasses, cups, bowls, and utensils.
  • Cleans tables, chairs, and condiment holders.
  • Sweeps, mops, polishes, strips, and waxes kitchen and dining room floors.
  • Cleans refrigerators, freezers, ice machines, coffee makers, stoves, and ovens.
  • Stocks foods, beverages, and supplies in an orderly and safe manner.
  • Empties trash cans.
  • Performs all kitchen work in accordance with health regulations as it relates to food preparation, food serving and storage.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write and communicate the English language. Ability to respond to emergency situations quickly and calmly while maintaining control and initiating the proper corrective action. Ability to perform combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis. Distance of travel is usually within the same building. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5 -10% of work time. Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.

Education and Experience

  • One (1) year experience working in a kitchen preferred, or
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
