Schedule: Casual/As-needed
Assists cook with preparing and serving nutritional meals and snacks in accordance with established guidelines and schedules; ensures all meals are prepared and served in a safe and presentable manner; cleans kitchen facilities, equipment, and appliances; maintains inventory of kitchen supplies and food in a neat and orderly manner.
Kitchen Assistant Responsibilities
- Assists in the daily operations of the camp food service by assisting in the preparations of food as the menu indicates including washing and peeling, and store food and leftovers at proper temperatures.
- Performs all duties in accordance with prescribed regulatory compliance guidelines as well as American Camp Association accreditation standards.
- Cleans, cooks, and prepares a variety of foods and beverages utilizing kitchen equipment, utensils, and supplies in accordance with acceptable and economical cooking methods.
- Assists in food preparations and service of food during meals, providing cooking supplies and replenishing service line.
- Serves food and beverages in a presentable manner; prepares plates for infants or persons requiring additional assistance.
- Assists in the preparation and packaging of food for use outside the camp dining hall.
- Prepares snacks and prepares plates of food for people eating after normal serving hours.
- Maintains a high degree of cleanliness in the kitchen and dining room; ensures that all meals are prepared in a safe manner; ensures all kitchen personnel practice proper personal hygiene.
- Wears closed toe shoes; Shirts must have sleeves.
- Assists cook in clean up after meal preparation and service.
- Assists in routine sanitation of the kitchen and related equipment such as clean and maintain all food-preparation and storage areas.
- Assists with the cleaning of all areas in the kitchen.
Physical Requirements
Some physical requirements of the Camp Kitchen Assistant position could be endurance including climbing, standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate kitchen equipment and activities are required. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Have a willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering a program in the facility available.
