Full job description

We are looking for a reliable and proactive Steward to join at a private property. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness and order across service areas, supporting the culinary team with dishwashing and basic kitchen tasks, and ensuring back-of-house operations run smoothly. This role requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of the household.

Key Responsibilities
  • Dishwashing and Cleaning: Operate industrial and domestic dishwashing machines, wash pots and pans, and ensure all crockery, cutlery and glassware are clean, sanitised and correctly stored.
  • Kitchens and Service Areas: Maintain cleanliness of kitchen floors, work surfaces, scullery and service stations; clear and dispose of waste responsibly; assist with basic food prep tasks such as peeling, washing and portioning when required.
  • Inventory and Stock Support: Receive deliveries, check goods against delivery notes, store items correctly and assist with stock rotation and simple stock counts.
  • Equipment and Maintenance: Clean and care for kitchen equipment and small appliances; report faults promptly and assist with routine basic maintenance and safe operation of equipment.
  • Hygiene and Compliance: Follow food safety and hygiene procedures, including safe handling of waste and chemicals, and complete any required cleaning schedules and logs.
  • Team Support: Work collaboratively with chefs, service and housekeeping colleagues, provide hands-on support during service rushes and be prepared to cover additional duties as directed by senior staff.
  • Flexibility: Be available to work flexible shift patterns including early mornings, evenings, weekends and bank holidays as the household requires.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Previous experience in a steward, scullery or similar role within a private household, hospitality or catering environment preferred.
  • Basic understanding of food safety, cleaning chemicals and safe working practices; relevant training or certification is an advantage.
  • Good time management and ability to work under pressure while maintaining composure.
  • Honest, discreet and respectful of a private household environment with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Flexible approach to duties and shifts, with a positive, can-do attitude.
