A Recovery Driver is responsible for towing or recovering vehicles that are either damaged, stranded, or involved in accidents. The role typically involves driving specialized vehicles to transport broken-down or impounded cars to designated repair shops, storage facilities, or other locations:
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate recovery vehicles, such as flatbeds, wreckers, or tow trucks, to safely retrieve broken-down, accident-damaged, or abandoned vehicles.
- Ensure that vehicles are securely loaded, transported, and unloaded without causing further damage.
- Respond to emergency recovery calls, especially during non-business hours, weekends, or holidays.
- Provide excellent customer service when dealing with clients, including towing services for individuals and businesses.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with customers, ensuring their needs are met.
- Assist stranded motorists by providing information about recovery processes and insurance claims.
- Perform basic checks on vehicles to ensure they are properly secured on the recovery vehicle.
- Inspect vehicles for damage before, during, and after the recovery process.
- Report any damages or issues related to vehicle recovery to the appropriate authorities or clients.
- Plan efficient routes to recover vehicles, considering traffic conditions and other factors to minimize delays.
- Ensure that all necessary paperwork (e.g., vehicle release forms, tow orders) is completed accurately and timely.
- Regularly inspect and maintain recovery vehicles to ensure they are in safe and working condition.
- Report any mechanical issues or maintenance needs to the supervisor or maintenance team.
- Maintain records of vehicle recoveries, including locations, times, and any damages incurred during transport.
- Ensure that all recovery transactions are documented in compliance with company policies and regulations.
- Follow all safety regulations and industry standards for towing and recovery operations.
- Ensure that all recovery activities are performed in a safe and secure manner to protect the driver, vehicle, and surrounding environment.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
- Experience operating recovery vehicles or tow trucks.
- Strong knowledge of vehicle recovery techniques and towing equipment.
- Good Physical Condition for lifting, securing vehicles, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Ability to drive long hours and respond to emergency calls at short notice.
- Excellent Communication Skills for customer interaction and coordination with dispatch.
- Basic knowledge of vehicle mechanics is helpful for assessing damage and ensuring safe transportation.
Working Conditions:
- Recovery Drivers may be required to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, depending on the demands of the job.
- The role may involve working in all weather conditions and driving in heavy traffic or hazardous situations.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects (such as vehicle parts or tools).
- Ability to work in varying physical conditions, including bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods.
