Job Title: Stores Manager (Construction)Job Summary
The Stores Manager is responsible for the effective planning, control, and management of construction materials, tools, and equipment at site and warehouse level. The role ensures timely availability of materials, proper storage, accurate inventory control, and compliance with safety and company procedures to support uninterrupted construction activities.
Key Responsibilities
Material & Inventory Management
- Receive, inspect, and record all construction materials, tools, and equipment.
- Maintain accurate stock records using manual logs or inventory management systems.
- Monitor stock levels and ensure availability as per project schedules and BOQs.
- Prevent shortages, overstocking, damage, or material deterioration.
Procurement & Coordination
- Coordinate with Procurement, Site Engineers, and Project Managers for material requirements.
- Raise material requisitions and follow up on deliveries.
- Verify supplier delivery notes against purchase orders.
Storage & Handling
- Ensure proper storage of materials (cement, steel, aggregates, fittings, MEP items, etc.).
- Implement FIFO/FEFO practices where applicable.
- Ensure safe handling and stacking to minimize damage and accidents.
Issuance & Control
- Issue materials to site teams against approved material requests.
- Track material consumption and report variances or wastage.
- Maintain records for material returns, transfers, and surplus.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure stores comply with site safety, environmental, and company standards.
- Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free storage areas.
- Support audits and inspections (internal and external).
Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly inventory and consumption reports.
- Assist with material reconciliation and project close-out documentation.
- Report damaged, obsolete, or slow-moving materials.
Team Supervision
- Supervise storekeepers, helpers, and loading/unloading staff.
- Train staff on material handling, documentation, and safety practices.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Civil Engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in construction stores/material management.
- Strong knowledge of construction materials and site operations.
- Proficiency in inventory systems and MS Excel.
- Good organizational, communication, and coordination skills.
- Ability to work under pressure in a site environment.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in large-scale construction projects (residential, commercial, infrastructure).
- Familiarity with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar).
- Knowledge of ISO procedures and material audits.
