Job Title: Hostess
Job Summary:
The Hostess is the first point of contact for guests at a restaurant or hospitality venue. This role involves warmly welcoming guests, managing reservations, and ensuring a smooth flow of seating and service. A hostess must maintain a friendly demeanor, remain organized under pressure, and provide exceptional customer service at all times.
Key Responsibilities:
- Greet guests with a warm and friendly attitude upon arrival
- Manage reservations using a booking system or reservation book
- Escort guests to their assigned tables and present menus
- Maintain an organized waitlist and estimate wait times accurately
- Answer phone calls, take reservations, and respond to guest inquiries
- Ensure the front-of-house area is clean, tidy, and welcoming
- Communicate guest preferences or special requests to the service team
- Monitor dining room activity and assist in seating rotation for servers
- Handle guest complaints or concerns promptly and professionally
- Provide information about the menu, specials, and restaurant services
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous customer service or hostess experience is a plus
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Professional appearance and demeanor
- Ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure
- Familiarity with reservation systems (e.g., OpenTable, Resto Guru) is an advantage
- Availability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays
Working Conditions:
- Fast-paced restaurant or hospitality environment
- Standing for extended periods
- Interaction with guests, staff, and management daily
