Job Responsibilities of Cargo Counter Staff
1. Customer Service
- Assist customers with booking cargo shipments.
- Provide information on cargo services, rates, schedules, and documentation requirements.
- Handle inquiries, complaints, and service issues politely and professionally.
2. Cargo Documentation
- Prepare airway bills (AWB), shipping labels, and other required documents.
- Verify accuracy of customer details, cargo description, and declared value.
- Ensure compliance with customs, security, and airline regulations.
3. Cargo Acceptance & Handling
- Receive cargo at the counter and check packaging, labeling, and condition.
- Weigh, measure, and record cargo details for billing and loading.
- Ensure cargo is accepted as per safety standards (e.g., restricted or dangerous goods policies).
4. Coordination & Communication
- Coordinate with warehouse staff for cargo movement and loading.
- Update customers on shipment status, delays, or issues.
- Liaise with customs, security, and ground handling teams.
5. Financial Transactions
- Collect freight charges, handling fees, or other applicable payments.
- Issue receipts and maintain transaction records.
- Balance daily cash/credit transactions.
6. Compliance & Safety
- Follow airline, IATA, and government regulations for cargo acceptance.
- Ensure proper documentation for restricted items, perishables, and dangerous goods.
- Maintain security standards at the counter.
7. Record Keeping & Reporting
- Maintain logs of accepted cargo and customer records.
- Prepare daily/weekly cargo counter reports.
- Escalate irregularities or discrepancies to supervisors.
